Are Umbrella Rigs Legal To Use In AZ?

What is an Umbrella Rig?

An umbrella rig, which is also known as an Alabama rig or A-rig. It is a device that allows you to use multiple baits at once. This design makes it perfect for mimicking a small school of baitfish. Alabama rigs have a swimbait style head with thin wires branching out similar to an umbrella. The number of wires differs from rig to rig but the most popular variation is 5 wires. These wires have swivels and snaps on the end that allow you to rig hooks on the end of each wire.

Can you use an Umbrella or Alabama rig in Arizona?

Here is what is says in the Arizona Revised Statutes 17-101 A1
“Angling” means the taking of fish by one line and not to exceed two hooks, by one line and one artificial lure, which may have attached more than one hook, or by one line and not to exceed two artificial flies or lures.

So the answer is yes! A-rigs are legal as long as it doesn’t contain more than 2 lures with hooks attached to it. My A-rig has 5 wires on it, So I attach 2 jigs and 3 colorado or willow style blades. It keeps me legal and still catches fish.
